Action, outdoor, weddings and wet plate collodion in the Austrian Alps. I go onto the ice, up the rock and into the deep snow – for images you can't get from the side of the trail.

About me

Photographer from Lienz in East Tyrol

Philipp Weger · Sports · Wet plate · Weddings · Christenings · Travel · Landscape

My name is Philipp Weger and I'm a professional photographer based in East Tyrol, Austria. Over many years behind the camera I've specialised in a range of different fields.

Because I spend so much time in alpine terrain myself, extreme sports photography is a big part of my work. Whether on snow, on ice, on rock or on the bike: I get right into the action, which lets me discover new perspectives.

I've also specialised in wet plate collodion photography, a process more than 150 years old. Aluminium plates are coated with silver in an analogue process, exposed in a 120-year-old wooden camera and developed straight away in a darkroom. Every photo is one of a kind – made exactly as it was in 1850.

How it works

From first contact to the finished image

  1. Enquiry

Tell me what you have in mind: your sport, wedding or portrait, the location and your preferred dates.

  2. Planning

We agree on location, time of day and weather. In the mountains, the light makes the picture.

  3. The shoot

I'm right there with you – on the rock, on the ice or in the powder. You can focus on your sport or your day.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Where do you shoot?

My home is East Tyrol (Osttirol) – Lienz, the Lienz Dolomites, the Zettersfeld, the Villgraten valley and the Hohe Tauern. For shoots I travel all over Tyrol, Carinthia and South Tyrol, and further afield for projects – for example to the big waves of Nazaré in Portugal.

Can you shoot in difficult terrain?

Yes, that's my speciality. I spend a lot of time in alpine terrain myself – on snow, ice, rock and the bike – and I get right into the action. That's how I find perspectives you never get from the side of the trail.

Who is a sports shoot for?

For athletes who need images for sponsors, social media or press, for outdoor brands, clubs, organisers of events such as bouldering competitions or races, and for anyone who wants their sport captured properly for once.

How much does a photo shoot cost?

Every shoot is different – location, effort, duration and how the images will be used all play a part. Just send me your idea via the contact form and you'll get a no-obligation quote.

What is wet plate collodion photography?

A process from 1850: an aluminium plate is coated with collodion and silver, exposed while still wet in a historic wooden camera and developed immediately in the darkroom. Every image is one of a kind – perfect as a very special wedding or portrait picture.

Ready for a shoot?

Tell me about your idea – sports, a wedding, wet plate or something completely different. I'll get back to you with a no-obligation proposal.
